Additional LFB memo details impacts of four specific funding changes in governor’s proposed budget

Governor Tony Evers’ proposed state budget makes a number of school funding changes that are in addition to the ā€œFair Funding for our Futureā€ reforms.

For example, in addition to an unprecedented increase in special education categorical aid (see previous post), the proposed budget also calls for per pupil increases in both school district revenue limits ($200 in 2019-20 and $204 in 2020-21) and the low revenue ceiling (to $9,700 in 2019-20 and to $10,000 in 2020-21).

It’s budget listening session season, your chance to be heard

This is the time in the legislative session when many lawmakers hold budget ā€œlistening sessionsā€ or ā€œoffice hoursā€ at various public locations in their districts to gather input on the proposed budget from their constituents.

At these ā€œlistening sessionsā€ members of the public are typically invited to share questions and concerns about matters involving state government, including particularly the state budget.

These ā€œlistening sessionsā€ are great opportunities for school leaders to communicate their priorities and viewpoints on the proposed state budget.Ā  We are aware of several “listening session” opportunities and are sharing information about them with you in hopes that you will attend and share your district’s needs and wishes. Ā  If your legislator is not listed below, we suggest you check your local newspapers or your legislators’ e-newsletter or personal website to find the dates, times and locations for listening sessions that may be planned in your area.
