Brock Fritz – Director of Communications

Brock Fritz was hired as the WASB director of communications and Wisconsin School News editor in April 2024. Since 2018, Brock has served the magazine as a part-time editor and proofreader. He was also an associate editor for America’s Credit Unions, a trade organization formerly known as the Credit Union National Association.

A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and economics, Brock lives in Oregon, Wis., with his wife, Erin, a first-grade teacher, and their son, Connor. They enjoy visiting local parks and trails, making trips up north, following Wisconsin sports and playing any form of game. 

Amy Qualmann – Director of Conferences and Events

Amy Qualmann began working for the WASB in 2010 as Communication Specialist & Event Planner. She was promoted to Director of Conferences and Events in April 2024.

Amy has a BA from UW-Whitewater. As a member of the Communication Team, she provides assistance assuring that marketing communications related to the WASB meetings and events, and WASB marketing efforts are effectively created and implemented. Amy serves as the Convention Exhibit Manager for the State Education Convention, and coordinates and manages the development of additional programs/meetings/events/seminars.

RJ Larson – Media Design and Marketing Specialist

RJ Larson was hired as the WASB media design and marketing specialist in November 2024. He joined the WASB after a two-year stint as an assistant sports information director at the United States Naval Academy Athletic Association in Annapolis, Md. RJ served as the SID for Navy men’s and women’s rugby, men’s and women’s track and field, women’s triathlon and wrestling. His tasks included writing preview and postgame stories, designing game notes, programs, graphics and other digital media materials, as well as running social media accounts for his assigned teams. He covered multiple historic athletic events in Annapolis, including the Navy men’s rugby team’s national championship in 2022-23.

RJ is a graduate of Western Illinois with a bachelor’s degree in broadcasting and journalism and a master’s degree in sports management. He graduated with summa cum laude honors and was recognized as the 2021 WIU Broadcasting Departmental Scholar. The Burlington, Wis., native resides in Madison with his fiancée, Megan, a store-team leader for Aerie, and their dog, Sammy. They enjoy cooking, watching their favorite shows and movies, exercising, spending time with family and cheering on the Packers, Brewers, Badgers, Bucks and New York Rangers.

RJ creates engaging editorial and promotional content for WASB.org, Wisconsin School News, the WASB’s social media channels, email communications and more.

Nick Debner – Event Planner and Assistant Editor

Nick Debner was hired as the WASB event planner and assistant editor in November 2024. He previously worked in the wedding industry as an event manager, as well as an advertising specialist for the Wisconsin State Journal.

Nick is a University of Wisconsin-Madison graduate with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He currently lives in Fitchburg with his partner, Chandler, and dog, Faroe. They enjoy going on walks, watching movies and traveling any chance they get.

Nick plays a role in planning and operating all WASB meetings and events, while also editing and producing content for Wisconsin School News magazine.
