Wisconsin Policy Forum releases budget analysis

by | Mar 11, 2021 | Legislative Update Blog, State Budget

The Wisconsin Policy Forum has released their state budget brief which “provides an overview of Evers’ proposal while scrutinizing key areas of the budget that require attention regardless of what state lawmakers ultimately approve and send to the governor’s desk.” See the Full Report.

From page 16: “The COVID-19 pandemic has wrought unprecedented disruption to K-12 schooling in Wisconsin over the past year, causing alarming drops in student enrollment and raising serious concerns about learning loss, threats to mental health, and widening disparities in educational outcomes. It also has imposed significant, unanticipated fiscal pressures on school districts stemming from unique logistical, staffing, facilities, equipment, transportation, and other needs.”

“Additional federal funds may help to alleviate some of those concerns. For now, however, the governor’s proposal aims to confront these challenges through large increases in discretionary state aid to districts and new policies for distributing it that seek to reduce disparities in education.”
