Office of School Safety to present Monday webinar on “Preparing for and Responding to Protest Activity”

by | Aug 20, 2021 | Legislative Update Blog, State Issue

From the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Office of School Safety:

“In light of the recent increase in COVID infections nation-wide, many school districts are opting to require students to wear a mask as they return to school. In response to the renewed masking requirements, many communities are seeing parents protest these decisions on the schoolhouse steps. The Wisconsin Department of Justice – Office of School Safety and Division of Legal Services will provide guidance on how to prepare for and respond to protest activity in the school environment.

This webinar is intended for educators, law enforcement and prosecutors that will likely respond to these protest actions. If you are unable to attend, a recording of the webinar will be posted on the Office of School Safety website.

“This webinar will be held on Monday, August 23 from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm and is free: Register Here”

Presenters:

  • Bob Kaiser, an Assistant Attorney General from the Wisconsin Department of Justice, will present the legal portion of this webinar.
  • Kristen Devitt, Director of the Office of School Safety, will present the portion covering planning for and responding to protest action.

The Office of School Safety did a similar presentation last summer regarding responding to student protest.
