The $60K Question: Is In-House Payroll Costing Your District More Than It Should?
For a 50-employee Wisconsin district, outsourced payroll typically costs around $5,400 annually, compared to $63,000-plus for an in-house specialist. But the real question isn’t just about salary savings; it’s about what happens when your payroll person retires, how you keep up with changing regulations, and whether your team has capacity to focus on students instead of check runs. Let’s explore why Wisconsin schools are rethinking payroll and what the shift to outsourcing actually looks like. We’ll cover real costs, institutional knowledge protection and what to expect if you make the change. Practical insight. No pitch.
