2025 WASB Business Honor Roll

School districts are the heartbeat of many communities—and the community often steps up in return. The WASB Business Honor Roll recognizes outstanding local businesses that go above and beyond in support of their schools.

This year, 55 school districts nominated 180 businesses that provided a wide range of services and support for their local schools and students.

Congratulations to the following businesses, and thank you to the school districts that nominated them! Open the dropdowns below to read each district’s nominations and learn about the essential partnerships they have formed within their community.

Districts that submitted their business partners will receive certificates in mid-September, while the December issue of Wisconsin School News will go in depth with several of the honorees. We encourage districts to take photos when celebrating their business partners and share them with WASB Media Design and Marketing Specialist .

Ashland School District

Ashland Baking Company – Honore and her staff are very supportive of the school. They work hard to brighten our staff’s day with their sweet treats. They donate rolls, muffins and scones as a way to say thank you for all of your hard work and dedication.

Ashland Ford Chrysler – Preston and his employees have been supporting the school district for over 10 years. In the past year, he was pivotal in supporting the operating referendum and sharing the “good” on why the referendum was needed and impactful. He is a valuable business partner with our school. He opened his doors this past fall during our “pathways days” to allow students and staff to see their operations, available jobs and required qualifications—along with salaries and benefits.

Black Cat Coffeehouse – Black Cat is truly a place for the community to gather. Over the past year, they have opened their doors for our school and community to gather for impactful conversations. They are gracious hosts that allow our school/community climate to grow.

Culver’s – Culver’s not only provides custard to our staff and students when they do something well, they also open their doors to fundraising opportunities. Many of our students learn valuable service skills during these fundraising opportunities, as they are the ones serving the food and cleaning up. We appreciate the opportunity for our students and staff to work together with Culver’s to allow everyone to come together and make a positive difference.

School District of Belleville

Cate Machine & Welding – Cate Machine & Welding has been a longtime partner in Belleville’s youth apprenticeship program. Their website states that “There is room to grow your career through on the job training, Youth Apprenticeships and Registered Apprenticeships to work toward becoming a Journeyman.” They are a reliable partner in growing our students to become successful in the trades. Cate is also our “go-to” location to customize anything with metal. They refabricated our swimming pool starting blocks to match a decades-old foundation. They create items as simple as a metal splashguard to protect a wall when elementary students drain milk from their cartons. They donated the metal material for our softball field concessions stand countertop. They will fix classroom desks at little or no charge, which requires specialized welding due to the nature of the desk design and materials. When we needed a customized swing for students with special needs, they created it. Cate has been a very reliable partner to our schools.

Helwig Roofing – Helwig Roofing is a family-owned business with strong connections to Belleville’s schools. They are a multi-year sponsor of our live-stream sports advertising. They have also made large contributions to our athletic program. They donated the LP SmartSide material for our new ticket booth for football and track events. They provided a coach bus for our football team to travel to the state football semifinals in Oconomowoc this past fall. They have also provided other small donations to individual sports programs throughout the past years.

Lingonberry Llama – Debi Buol and her team provide weekly support to Belleville’s schools. They take an order each Wednesday for our elementary school staff, and each Friday for our middle school, high school and district staff. When we have a special event, the Llama provides the service we need (coffee, other drinks, pastries, etc.), typically at a deep discount to support the budget of the district or individual. When our district wanted to support a neighboring district who lost a loved administrator, the Llama responded on our behalf to provide a caring meal for their staff. The Llama has employed several Belleville High School students and alumni. Their business is a cornerstone of our community, and the Llama’s partnership with the district is deeply valued.

Mike O’Connor – State Farm Insurance – Mike O’Connor graduated from Belleville High School in 1979 and returned to start the Mike O’Connor State Farm Insurance Agency in 1989. Since then, Mike has coached middle and high school girls’ basketball, drove the bus for the teams and kept the scorebook for away games. Mike also drove daily district bus routes and now serves as a substitute driver. Through his business, Mike sponsors the “Belleville School Minute” on Big Radio, allowing the district to showcase its achievements to the region. His insurance agency also sponsored “free popcorn” nights at home basketball games. When the football stadium was built, Mike raised money through engraved bleacher seat donations. He drove the bleacher seats back and forth to Green Bay on numerous occasions for engraving. Finally, when the district began advertising on its live-stream sports broadcasts, his agency was the first to sign on, a partnership that has continued into its fourth year.

Sugar River Lanes – Rob and Marcia Bloxham purchased Sugar River Lanes three years ago and quickly became a strong district supporter. They have continued to hire Youth Apprenticeship students at their work site, providing a reliable partner for the district. They immediately signed on as an advertising sponsor for live-stream sports. They have become the “go-to” after-hours location for our students. They work with our administration to host post-prom to create a safe environment for our students. They provide bowling and food discounts for team events and are the central hub for post-sports celebrations, especially for our football and basketball teams. Belleville also has a club bowling team, which Sugar River hosts at no cost. The district is heavily reliant on Sugar River Lanes, and we deeply appreciate the multiple ways we partner with them.

Brodhead School District

Bank of Brodhead – The Bank of Brodhead has been an active partner in the education and programs for our school system throughout the years. We appreciate their willingness this past school year to work with our district to sponsor the scoreboard for our new junior varsity softball field. Their donation and support of our softball program is just one more example of their commitment to our district and the community of Brodhead.

Decatur Dairy – Over the years, Decatur Dairy has worked with Brodhead School District’s annual cheese sale fundraisers, providing students with enriching experiences at the annual middle school Washington D.C. trip, as well as the high school music program’s bi-annual trips. It is wonderful to have a local business like Decatur Dairy willing to work with our various programs.

Nexus Solutions – Brodhead School District passed its first significant Bond Referendum in the past 30 years. Nexus Solutions has been instrumental in this process, guiding our district throughout its entirety. We are excited to see our new building additions across our entire school district, providing more opportunities for the students of Brodhead. We appreciate their guidance and support.

School District of Cambridge

Over the past year, Angela has made significant contributions that have positively impacted our community. Most notably, she generously donated scoreboards for the CAP programming at the NMS athletic fields, enhancing the quality and professionalism of youth sports events. In addition, she provided mouth guards for high school student-athletes, promoting safety and well-being among our young athletes.

She has mentored students in their projects and is planning future partnerships with the DECA chapter for fundraisers, student professional development opportunities, and a strategic plan for future chapter growth and student opportunities.

South Central Landscapes – SCLS donates continuously to various CAP/CSD programs and facilities, including the pool.

Cambridge Foundation – The Cambridge Foundation’s 2025 contributions include a $13,000 bleacher replacement at the athletic fields and $1,200 for CPR/AED certifications for graduating seniors. The foundation’s 2024 contributions included a $5,000 wrestling mat, while 2023 contributions included a $800 for Badger Girls and Boys State, $500 as a Cambridge Music Booster and $18,500 for repairs to the Nikolay Middle School historical building. The Belgium Area Chamber of Commerce was an essential partner for our joint District & Chamber Career and Job Fair. The Chamber helped to organize and coordinate employers and businesses in the area. These employers and businesses facilitated learning for our students by each having a table where high school students could ask questions, engage in activities and explore resources. Graphic Image – Our district has partnered with Graphic Image, a reputable company specializing in visual enhancement displays. They have helped the district with improvements to our school’s appearance and branding. This collaboration has resulted in several notable additions to our school. High-quality character banners now adorn our entryway, reinforcing our school’s values and creating an inspiring atmosphere. Both the interior and exterior of our building have received amazing branding wraps, showcasing our school’s identity and spirit. Perhaps the most impressive addition is the 100-foot “Wall of Fame” outside our gym. This stunning display features pictures from past yearbooks, celebrating the students and staff who have made our district proud over the years. We believe these enhancements will not only improve the aesthetic appeal of our school but also boost school pride and create a more positive learning environment.

VFW Post 10406 – Our collaboration with the VFW Post 10406 in Cochrane has brought about several meaningful initiatives that enhance our students’ educational experience and honor our veterans. They work with staff to increase student participation in two national competitions: The Voice of Democracy (for high school students) and The Patriot’s Pen (for middle school students). The post was also instrumental in creating a new Honor Wall in our building. This wall displays the names of veterans from all military branches who have attended C-FC at any point in time. In partnership with the VFW, we have introduced an annual graduation coin. Each graduate receives a coin to present to someone who has significantly impacted their journey, expressing gratitude for their support in helping them grow and prepare for the future. Tim Witt Chevrolet – We are a community that gladly welcomed Tim Witt back into the Crivitz area when he took over the Chevrolet dealer in town. Since his return, he has donated to countless programs and opportunities for the Crivitz youth and district and even the teachers. There isn’t a time when he says no to an opportunity to give, especially to our kids. He most recently created the Tim Witt scholarship program where, not only Crivitz seniors but surrounding seniors, can bring in their report cards and be entered for a scholarship for their A’s—giving ALL students a chance at receiving it. They were able to get firsthand experience of what this career entails and that experience will be invaluable to their future career planning decisions. Additionally, the City of Franklin Public Health Department took on two student interns. These interns got to see the inner workings of public health. Greg and his staff have participated in our Consortium Healthcare Hiring Events and have employed several CNAs and Food Service staff. These paid Youth Apprenticeship opportunities help our students discover the joys of working in healthcare and build their resumes for what’s next.
