Districts surveyed about interest in school-based COVID testing

by | Apr 16, 2021 | Legislative Update Blog, State Issue

Earlier this week, the DPI sent out an email to district administrators that included a link to a survey from the state Department of Health Services (DHS) which is seeking input as it works to develop a statewide program to support school-based COVID-19 testing for teachers, staff, and students.

The survey assesses district’s interest in various types of COVID testing programs.  The response will inform the development of a statewide program best suited to the needs of schools in Wisconsin.

Participation in such testing programs would be optional.  Districts could chose to opt-in to the type of testing plan that best meets their needs.  Answers to this brief survey are nonbinding and will not be treated as an official commitment to participate in this program.

Possible testing options under consideration include:1) testing programs to test teachers, students or staff who are symptomatic or who have been in close contact with an infected person; 2) testing related to event-based outbreaks; and 3) routine, weekly testing of teachers and staff, .

We are sharing this information so school board members ae aware of this survey and can participate with their leadership team in discussions about what type of COVID testing might best meet their district’s needs
