Jim’s lifelong dedication to public education and student success continues through his leadership roles at both the state and local levels. Recently appointed to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Control, Jim brings decades of experience in athletics, administration and education policy to the organization. He is currently serving his sixth year as Region 5 Director for the Wisconsin Association of School Boards. For the past four years, he has served as president of the Wausau School District Board of Education.

Jim began his professional career in 1977 and spent 20 years as a teacher and coach, working in school districts across Wisconsin and Minnesota, including UW-Platteville, Park Falls, Dodgeville, Wausau and Eagan, Minnesota. He then spent 22 years in educational administration, serving in a variety of leadership roles including athletic director, assistant principal, principal and superintendent. In 2008, he was hired as principal of Lakeland Union High School in Minocqua and later promoted to superintendent, retiring from that position in spring 2019.

After returning to Wausau, Jim was elected to the Wausau School Board, where he continues to advocate for student achievement and equal opportunity in education. His academic credentials include a B.A. and M.S. in Education from the University of Wisconsin System, a Master of Arts in Educational Administration from Marian University, and an Ed.S. in Technology-Enhanced Curricula from Argosy University in Eagan, Minnesota.

Jim and his wife are proud parents of three adult children and grandparents to three grandchildren. His distinguished career reflects a strong commitment to public service, student development and leadership at all levels of education.
