WASB Region 12 Director Election

October 27, 2020

For WASB governance purposes, the state is divided into 15 regions. Each member school board has one vote for its regional representative to the board of directors. Directors are elected for three-year terms. The board of directors is charged with the overall management of the affairs, funds and property of the association.

The 2020 Regional Meetings and elections will be held virtually.

Voting Instructions

There is a contested election for Region 12 so the director election will be held immediately prior to the regularly scheduled Region 12 Online Fall Regional Meeting on Oct. 27 at 6:30 pm.

Use this link to attend the Region 12 director election meeting: https://zoom.us/j/91784623909
Passcode:  273627

  • We must validate all participants, so please join the meeting by 6:25 pm.
  • Only ONE school board member from each district and CESA in Region 12 may attend the director election meeting. (Voting will be conducted using the polling feature in the Zoom meeting. Thus, we are allowing only one board member to attend per district to ensure that it is one vote per district.)
  • Per the WASB Bylaws, the vote for the regional director must be cast by a school board member. District administrators or other staff are not permitted to vote on behalf of the school board.
  • When entering the director election meeting, identify yourself as “First-Name Last-Name, District or CESA” (e.g. Aaron Rodgers, Titletown) so that we may quickly admit you into the meeting room.
  • Note to the CESA board of control: The software allows one vote per person so a CESA voting representative cannot also be a school board voting representative.

Hello Wisconsin Association of School Boards,

My name is Andrew McKinney and I want to represent the region 12 WASB Board of Directors.

I’m currently serving as the two-time president of the Monona Grove School Board, serving as member of the Youth Commissions committee for the Dane County Board and serving as an officer of the VFW Post 7591. I also served on the Dane County Credit Union Board and other community and higher education committee’s.

I served my country on active duty, during the Gulf War, for six years in the Army. I have coached in a variety of sports for K-12 students, paid and volunteer, for over 20 years in our community. With 30 years experience in the private and public sector, I’m now ready to serve as a WASB Board of Director.

Randall Smith
Region 12 Candidate
Monticello School Board

Randall Smith is a resident of the Monticello Public School District. He has been a Monticello School Board member for 20 years. He comes from a 32 year lineage of board members as his father served as president for 12 years prior to Randall beginning his terms.

I can truly say that Randall is the best board member I have had the honor of serving for in my 12 years. He is knowledgeable, and has an unbelievable recollection of the history of our district. His decisions are ALWAYS based on what is best for our students. He has a knack for thinking through various situations that may arise for board based decisions. Most importantly, he quietly commands respect and shows constant leadership for his fellow board members.

I’m proud to nominate Randall Smith for the Region 12 WASB board of directors. Please feel free to reach out with any questions.
Allen Brokopp, District Administrator
