2022 Summer Leadership Institute

Governing for Success

15 member recognition logo

Friday and Saturday, July 8 and 9
Radisson, La Crosse

An effective superintendent and board governance team models a shared commitment of high expectations and excellence for all students. A strong governance team is developed through understanding and building a governance mindset. Adopting the shared beliefs and practices of this mindset will clarify the work of the board and superintendent as partnering for students rather than working as individuals with different agendas.

This two-day Summer Leadership Institute is focused on building and maintaining a strong governance team by creating a governance mindset and connecting this important work to the achievement of all students.

Elevating Achievement for All Children: A Focus on Excellence and Equity, Part 1

School districts face mounting resistance to equitable delivery of student instruction and other opportunities for student growth. The dialogue, or lack thereof, too often becomes zero sum; one child’s gain is wrongly perceived as another child’s loss. Our enduring commitment to ensuring success for all children — a long-held belief in education — remains true today.

This workshop will share how to frame our work with a simultaneous, dual focus on excellence and equity for all children. Ideas with a focus to ensure excellence for all children will be provided. In addition, information on how districts have and can constructively focus on equity practices for all children will be shared.

Finally, we will discuss how the role of the school board and superintendent impacts this critically important work.
