About WASB

On May 8, 2025, the WASB Board appointed Christopher Fons of the Milwaukee Public Schools Board to fill the Region 14 seat previously held by Xela Garcia, who did not seek re-election in April.

Fons will serve in an interim role until the 2025 Region 14 Fall Regional Meeting, where members will elect a director for a one-year term. At the 2026 Fall Regional Meeting, members will elect someone to serve a full three-year term on the WASB Board of Directors.

A retired educator with 24 years of service in MPS, Fos was elected to the Milwaukee Board of School Directors in April 2025. He is the proud parent of two children that currently attend MPS schools.

Fons holds a master’s degree in Latin American Studies from UW-Madison and a master’s in US History from UW-Milwaukee, where he was an undergraduate. In addition to his work in education, he is a co-founder of the Riverwest 24 Bike Race and organizes a year-round pick-up hockey league.
