WisDOJ: Free threat assessment training course available in Madison

The Office of School Safety is offering a free School Violence Threat Assessment Team course. It’s designed for school administrators, counselors, security personnel and SRO/ERO’s. This course will explain who should be part of the threat assessment team, the intent behind threat assessment tools such as the Violence Risk Assessment, how to assess the risk level associated with a threat, and how to determine the appropriate response to a specific threat. Attendees will complete table top exercises and evaluate their own policies. Attendees are encouraged to bring the threat assessment tool used in their school district and their school district’s policy regarding threats of violence to the training. State Superintendent Tony Evers sent a letter to Attorney General Brad Schimel as well as the co-chairs of the state’s budget committee, Sen. Alberta Darling and Rep. John Nygren, urging that some of the remaining school safety grant funds be used on the following mental health programs noting that there has been strong demand for the programs from school districts:
Attorney General Brad Schimel today announced an additional 14 schools that have been awarded grants through the Wisconsin Department of Justice School Safety Grant program, administered by DOJ’s Office of School Safety. Combined, the 14 schools will receive $1.7 million, which will be spent on building safety improvements, as well as training for faculty and staff.
