The Senate Committee on Education will hold an executive session and a public hearing on Tuesday, September 17 at 10:00 a.m. in Room 330 Southwest, State Capitol.
The committee is chaired by state Sen. Luther Olsen (R-Ripon) and is scheduled to take public testimony on the following bills:

Attorney General Brad Schimel today announced 66 schools and school districts will receive $3,969,793 from the second round of the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) School Safety Grant program, which focuses on advanced initiatives to bolster student mental health.

From the Dept of Justice Office of School Safety:
The Adolescent Mental Health Training and the Threat Assessment Team Course required as a prerequisite for the second round of funding will be provided by the DOJ for no cost to the school. However, the school will need to cover the costs associated with travel to the training such as mileage, lodging, and meals. It is permitted to use grant funding to cover these costs if it is identified within the budget spreadsheet submitted in Egrants.

Attorney General Brad Schimel today announced an additional 47 schools and school districts that combined will receive $1,562,511 from the first round of the Wisconsin Department of Justice (WisDOJ) School Safety Grant program. Grant funds will be used for building safety improvements as well as training for faculty and staff.
The news release issued by Schimel’s office included a statement in bold print indicating that, “More grants will be awarded to schools that applied for the first round of grant funding soon.“
Schools interested in applying for the second round of grant funding must submit a mandatory “intent to apply” to the Office of School Safety by August 13, 2018. (more…)

Attorney General Brad Schimel today announced an additional 60 schools and school districts that combined will receive $5,516,732 from the first round of the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) School Safety Grant program. Grant funds will be used for building safety improvements as well as training for faculty and staff.
The news release issued by DOJ included a statement indicating that, “More grants will be awarded to schools that applied for the first round of grant funding soon.” To date 605 out of 735 applicant schools and school districts have been awarded $44,228,887 in school safety grant funding. (more…)
