The Assembly Committee on Local Government has scheduled a public hearing on a WASB-supported bill (Assembly Bill 170) updating state statutes specifying the method for notifying board members of a special meeting of a school board. The hearing will be held in Madison on Wednesday, May 22 at 1:00 p.m. in Room 400 Northeast of the State Capitol.
The WASB worked with Rep. Rick Gundrum (R-Slinger) and Sen. Luther Olsen (R-Ripon) on this bill, which is modeled on similar legislation enacted into law last session as (2017 Wisconsin Act 50) revamping the method for giving council members notice of a special meeting of a city council. (more…)

WASB Day at the Capitol was held this past Wednesday, March 13. Over 200 school board members, administrators and others made their way to Madison to take our message to the Capitol. Thank you to all who took time out of their schedules to make the trip!
The morning program was kicked off by WASB President Brett Hyde of the Muskego-Norway school board and included a K-12 state budget overview with State Budget Director Brian Pahnke and Education Team Leader Sara Hynek from the WI Dept. of Administration.

Method for Giving Notice of Special Board Meetings – We’ve been working with Rep. Rick Gundrum (R-Slinger) and Sen. Luther Olsen (R-Ripon) on draft legislation to modernize the statutory procedures for providing notice of special school board meetings. The language would mirror a similar change made last session which updated the statutes relating to giving notice of special city council meetings. We expect this draft bill will be circulated for co-signers in the coming weeks. (more…)

We encourage you to join school board members and administrators from around the state on March 13 to take our message to the Capitol! With the legislature beginning its review of Governor Evers’ budget proposal, it is an ideal time to talk with your local legislators and build relationships and support for your schools.
As part of our morning programming at the Monona Terrace, we are once again fortunate to have a bipartisan panel of legislative leaders speak to attendees on how they see K-12 fitting into the state budget debate. Our legislative panelists for 2019 are: (more…)
