The newest Marquette Law School Poll was released by Prof. Charles Franklin (pictured) on August 22 and it included an array of questions on various election and other issues. It featured several K-12 education-related questions including the recurring question of increased school funding vs reducing property taxes:
This number is up from the 59% who preferred school funding in June.

Several current school board members will be on the partisan primary ballot for various offices next Tuesday, August 14, 2018: Cathy Myers (Janesville) is running for the Democratic nomination for the 1st Congressional seat currently held by retiring U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan.
Kyle Whelton (Sheboygan Area) is running as a Democrat for the 9th district state Senate seat currently held by Sen. Devin LeMahieu (R-Oostburg).
Linda Boucher (Elmbrook), Timothy Ramthun (Kewaskum), and Robert Wittke (Racine Unified), all Republicans, are running to be their party’s nominee for the state Assembly in the 14th, 59th and 62nd Assembly districts, respectively. Each of those seats is vacant due to the incumbent either retiring or running for higher office. Finally, Wendy Sue Johnson (former Eau Claire Area board member) is running as a Democrat for the vacant 68th Assembly district. If we have missed anyone please let us know! (more…)

As we get closer to the August 14 partisan primary election, the first debate for governor has been held and the first debate for U.S. Senate has been scheduled.
The eight Democratic candidates vying for the chance to take on incumbent GOP Gov. Scott Walker had their first debate Thursday, July 12 in Milwaukee. The candidates are state Superintendent Tony Evers; former state party chairman Matt Flynn; political activist Mike McCabe; state firefighters president Mahlon Mitchell; corporate attorney Josh Pade; former state Rep. Kelda Roys; Madison Mayor Paul Soglin; and state Sen. Kathleen Vinehout. (more…)

The Democrats running for governor have been discussing a variety of K-12 issues at candidate forums and in response to media inquiries. Ten Democrats are currently in the race and the winner of the August 14 primary will face incumbent GOP Gov. Scott Walker in November. (more…)
