Effective teachers and leaders: the linchpins to student success (Regency D)

Of all school-related factors that impact student learning, the two most powerful are, first, the teacher, and second, the principal. Consequently, schools are charged with the moral imperative to ensure that there is a highly effective teacher in every classroom and a highly effective leader in every building. Dr. Stronge will present research-based standards of professional practice and recommendations for designing a teacher evaluation system that focuses on both the processes and results of teaching. The workshop will be presented in an interactive format and will include handouts related to connecting teacher effectiveness to student achievement.

Dr. James Stronge’s research interests include policy and practice related to teacher quality, and teacher administrator evaluation. He is the author, co-author, or editor of 22 books and more than 100 articles.

Selected legal issues for board members (Regency B)
In order to serve effectively, school board members must be cognizant of a variety of legal requirements.  This presentation will provide an overview of key areas of both federal and state law, with a particular focus on open meetings, public records and issues related to employment and labor law (e.g., Fair Labor Standards Act, Municipal Employment Relations Act).  This session is ideal both for new board members seeking to become familiar with these areas and for seasoned veterans hoping to refresh their knowledge.

Engaging today's learner while meeting the needs of tomorrow (Regency A)

Global competition, limited budgets, high-stakes testing, and a changing learning environment all place huge pressures on our schools. You're invited to participate in a hands-on exploration of the latest technologies for education. This interactive event is an opportunity to experience how using the iPad mobile technologies, as well as apps and digital content, can increase achievement in every subject area. Plus, you’ll discover how easy it is to integrate these valuable tools into your school’s learning environment. The purpose of this event is to give school board members and administrators a better understanding of how schools can be used to engage today’s learners and help you meet your students’ individual learning needs.

When registering please indicate whether you will bring your own iPad or need one provided.
