The Assembly Committee on Education will hold an executive session and a public hearing on Thursday, September 19 at 10:00 a.m. in Room 417 North, State Capitol.
The committee is chaired by state Rep. Jeremy Thiesfeldt (R-Fond du Lac) and is scheduled to take public testimony on the following bills:

The WASB GR Team does our best to try to minimize or eliminate legislative mandates on schools, especially unfunded mandates that require school boards to spend money and other resources. Often, the best way to guard against such mandates is to speak out before they become law.
Below is a sampling of currently proposed mandate measures that have come to our attention in the 2019-20 Legislative Session. The Assembly Committee on Education, chaired by Rep. Jeremy Thiesfeldt (R-Fond du Lac), has scheduled a public hearing for Thursday, June 13 on a pair of bills that stem from the work of the Blue Ribbon Commission on School Funding. Both bills are authored by Rep. Joel Kitchens (R-Sturgeon Bay) and sponsored by Sen. Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green).
UPDATE: Assembly Bill 224 was removed from the hearing agenda. Only Assembly Bill 223 was heard.

On Thursday, May 30, the Assembly Committee on Education met to vote on one bill (dyslexia guidebook) and hold a public hearing on three others (school meals, special education licensure & teacher licensure reciprocity).
Executive Session: Assembly Bill 110 was recommended for full passage by the Assembly on a party-line vote after an amendment was unanimously approved by committee members. (more…)
